The Flying Scotsman in black. World famous, fast, powerful and a real legend:

The steam locomotive with the catchy name "Flying Scotsman" set a number of world records and made railway history in the process. For decades it pulled the British express train of the same name, which raced non-stop from Edinburgh to London and back.

In 1934 it was the first steam locomotive to reach the magical speed of 100 miles/hour (160 km/h) and later even toured the USA and Australia. To mark the 100th anniversary of this three-cylinder power locomotive, Märklin released the current museum version in the famous green livery in 2023. Now a special black version follows, which tells a fascinating era in the history of the locomotive with its unusual features.

During the Second World War and for a few years afterwards, the famous green colour gave way to a noble black paintwork, like that of many British steam locomotives at that time. Towards the end of the major overhaul that began in 2006, the black livery was chosen again to protect the locomotive during final assembly and testing. During this time, young and old alike had the opportunity to experience the Flying Scotsman in this unique condition, first in 2011 and 2012 at "Railfest", a major railway festival that took place at the same time as the London Olympics and the 800th anniversary of the city of York.

The locomotive last wore this livery for further test and trial runs in January/February 2016. The locomotive then received its green livery from British Railways and, under the running number 60103, delights railway fans across the country and beyond. In the new excellent Trix model, this special variant of the Flying Scotsman lives on in a small scale and tells another important chapter in the life of this fascinating European steam giant.

Class A3 express steam locomotive with tender. Version is represented in postwar black, featuring the two numbers it carried in 1946 – 502 and 103 – as well as its current one on the smokebox door.
